Happy Monday!

Posted: Monday, December 22nd, 2008

What a great Monday!  I know that's an oxymoron for some...but we had a fun morning giving stuff away!  The Canadian Tire on Coventry Road was the place to be - Angie put the call out and at 7am viewers were there filling out the ballots for an opportunity to win over $3000 in prizes!  Congrats to all the winners.

If you're plum out of gift ideas - how about giving "Gifts That Matter" - fighting global poverty with CHF.  These are alternative gifts that can make a remarkable difference for families living in extreme poverty.  We found out this morning for example, that a donkey can transform the life of a family in Africa.  Donkeys transport goods, carry water and free up children's time so they can attend school to help improve their future.  The gift of $10 seeds can grow food and feed a family of five in Vietnam for two months.  A pair of goats for only $50 can change lives by providing milk, manure for the garden, and livestock to raise for meat to sell at the market.  These are things we take for granted.  I know there's always a need at home, the difference lies in that our country has social services and infrastructure in place to help those who need it the most.  These countries have nothing.  Last year Canadians bought $250,000 Gifts That Matter - and there's something new this year with expanded gift options to support projects in Vietnam, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia.  Check out the website www.giftsthatmatter.ca or call 1-866-242-4243 ext. 227.

Have a good Monday - see you bright and early!

Cheers,
Karen
