Beef Shawarma

Ottawa Lebanese Festival

Ingredients

  1. 1 kg sirloin tip steak
  2. 1 tsp. salt
  3. 1/2 tsp. pepper
  4. 1/2 tsp. allspice
  5. 2 bay leaves
  6. 1 cinnamon stick
  7. 2 sliced medium size onions
  8. 1/2 cup red vinegar
  9. 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Tahini Sauce (to go with the Beef)

  1. 1 cup sesame seed oil (tahini)
  2. 1 garlic clove
  3. Lemon juice
  4. Water (as necessary)

Preparation

Shawarma

  1. Slice steak thinly
  2. Slice onion thinly
  3. Add remaining ingredients to onions and pour marinade over beef.
  4. Marinade for 4 to 5 hours or overnight.
  5. Put more vegetable oil in a pan and cook beef on medium heat

Tahini Sauce

  1. Mix all ingredients, gradually adding water to reduce thickness of sauce.
