the Perfect Turkey Stuffing

Ingredients

  1. ½ loaf white bread diced
  2. ½ loaf whole wheat bread diced
  3. 2 Cortland apples diced
  4. 1 large onion diced
  5. 2 celery stalks diced
  6. 2 tbs poultry seasoning
  7. 1/3 cup copped fresh sage and fresh thyme
  8. ½ cup chopped pistachios
  9. 1 cup diced bacon
  10. ½ cup melted butter
  11. 1 cup chicken stock
  12. Salt and pepper to taste
  13. 2 eggs beaten (optional)

Preparation

  1. In a heavy bottomed frying pan cook the bacon over medium heat until golden brown. 
  2. Add the apples, celery, and onions and continue to sauté for an additional 5 minutes. 
  3. Add the poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, and pistachios to the pan, stir and sauté for 1 minute. 
  4. In a large mixing bowl toss the bread, eggs, stock, butter and sautéed items.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Cool the stuffing mixture and then stuff the turkey.
